If you want to use another addressbook, the user has to choose it in every 
app(?), and the every app would need to implement it (and couldn't  integrate 
it that good). 
KOrganizer and KMail don't use kaddressbook (frontend) a lot (nearly never). 
They just use libkabc (backend).

But if you just want to start another addressbook from kmail, you have to ask 
on the kmail-mailing list.
