Userdemand for such an application is very high (I don't know what benefit it 
brings, but it's often requested). Currently a beginning has been done (once 
again). You can look at it in CVS kdepim/kaplan. Biggest Problem for now is, 
that makeing KMail a kpart is currently difficult, because, there a some 
major changes in KMail, and the KMail-developers are busy doing that. But 
KMail would surely be the core part of that application.
One more problem is the lack of developers...
