Hi,
at first: I think your ideas behind Plasma are great. But at second, i
have to second Malcolm. A very productive user interface is much more
than eye candy. And proper keyboard support is much more than
standardized shortcuts. It is also a question of decent focus handling.
It must be possible to switch the keyboard focus to an applet or a panel
without using the mouse. Think of Alt-Tab for switching between windows.
But I think the applets shouldn't appear in the alt-tab-list of windows.
It is also worth to think about the kind of shortcuts to use. Strg-?,
Alt-?, Win-? or just ?. A rule of thumb I like is use the Windows-key
for action on windows (or applets). This prevents shortcut collisions
between non KDE application (Emacs, IntelliJ IDEA, ...) and KDE, esp.
kwin in the default setup.
So, I hope Plasma is a chance to really improve modern user interfaces.
And there is really very much crippled with those of today. Although KDE
is less crippled than many ;-)
