But at second, i have to second Malcolm. A very productive user interface is much more than eye candy. And proper keyboard support is much more than standardized shortcuts. It is also a question of decent focus handling. It must be possible to switch the keyboard focus to an applet or a panel without using the mouse. Think of Alt-Tab for switching between windows. But I think the applets shouldn't appear in the alt-tab-list of windows. It is also worth to think about the kind of shortcuts to use. Strg-?, Alt-?, Win-? or just ?. A rule of thumb I like is use the Windows-key for action on windows (or applets). This prevents shortcut collisions between non KDE application (Emacs, IntelliJ IDEA, ...) and KDE, esp. kwin in the default setup. So, I hope Plasma is a chance to really improve modern user interfaces. And there is really very much crippled with those of today.
