Does SuSE have a KDEArtWork package??

The missing link is: "kxsrun".

Instead of beating your head, read one of the 'desktop' files:
TryExec=xscreensaver
Make sure that: "xscreensaver" is on your path:
which xscreensaver
And make sure that you can run them with: "xscreensaver".
Then:
Exec=kxsconfig <screen_saver>
Exec=kxsrun <screen_saver> -- -root
See if you have the two executables: "kxsconfig" & "kxsrun" on your system.
