I forgot this:

version | grep GNU

GNU C Library stable release version 2.3.4, by Roland McGrath et al.
Compiled by GNU CC version 3.4.3.

[root@zeus kdelibs-050126]# nm -a /usr/local/gcc3/lib/libc.a | grep "T 
__ctype_b_loc"
00000000 T __ctype_b_loc
