FWIW, I use FC2 BUT with a Vanilla kernel and kde-redhats packages, and its 
fast! very fast..
Example Konq, first time opening just under 1 second, there after its opens 
instantly, same with Konsole, Kwrite etc..

XP2500+ Barton, 512meg DDR, I can say Fedora's heavily patched kernel is 
slooow IMHO, my Vanilla kernel has only a few patches mainly alsa, 
config_hz, and cd/dvd fix but thats getting off topic,

So I guess with reference to the Subject :) KDE is pretty dam fast, I its 
the various "flavours" of the OS's that make the difference,

just my thoughts..
