As a general question, yes that is where experienced tech people come from.  As far as 
whether they are hiring at the moment, you can base your education decisions on that 
because you don't know what the employment marke will be in 4 years.

What classes you take depend first on whether you want to get a two year degree and become 
a technician or if you plan to transfer to a 4 year college and be an engineer.

If the first case, you should consider what type of a job you are training for.  In the 
second case you should consider first whether the classes will be accepted for transfer 
not just as credits but to fulfill specific class requirements.  If you plan on being a 
programmer, you should also take math classes to be sufficiently grounded in math. 
Specifically, you should have some classes in finite and boolean math and game theory.  I 
would also suggest the first class in logic from the philosophy department.
