Peter,

I would suggest that you download the KDE-3.1 source code and build it 
yourself.  Do the same with QT-3.1 first.  I did it this way, and am 
much happier with the outcome.

BTW, the build will go much faster if you exit from X and build from 
console.  You need to build arts, kde-libs, and then kde-base first.  
After that, you can start a different build on each console.  I had 6 
running simultaneously. I'd suggest you start the latter when you're 
going to be away from the computer for awhile. ;)
