You do not have your $QTDIR set correctly in addition to the proper 
order of the entries in ld.so.conf.  I had a month of hell getting 
that figured out well enough to make things work when I last built 
qt-3.0.5.

Somebody needs to write up foolproof a procedure for this, but I'm 
not up to it.  Remember I said foolproof. :)
