Actually, I had no problems with Corel's x utility. Also, MandrakeSoft's 
DrakXsetup (I think that's what it's called...) does the same thing as what 
he was saying, so I'm positive that it CAN be done. Just not easily...

I've often wondered why that was dropped... It was one of the best damn X 
configuration utilities out there.

The permission problem was rectified. It was caused by a race.               
Mounting /dev/brain0 is still causing problems, though...
