What he needs is smtp server authentication.  The current version 
of Kmail does not have this capability.  It is a new feature of version 
3 that is scheduled to be released on 3/18 and is in beta 1 testing 
now.

The login name and password only appear on and are in affect for 
the incomming pop server.  There is no place to enter that data for 
the outgoing smtp server.
