Hm. Not good form to follow up to my own post - but I think I might have
a problem with the way libstdc++ is installed here. I noticed other
problems that may be related (undefined symbol _builtin_vec_new whilst
invoking 'groff'). My output from 'ls -l /usr/lib/libstc++' is below:

Anyone spot something odd? I was getting 'no such file or directory'
from ksplash and noticed one of the symlinks was missing, so I attempted
to resymlink - that may be the problem.
