I haven't been on this list for long now, so I'm sorry if this has
been said before.
Visiting Troll Tech's web site I got the impression that to most of
their important customers the important advantages of Qt are:
1. cross-platform development on both Windows and *nix
Here a FreeQt (even LGPLd) wouldn't hurt Troll Tech at all. I'm
pretty sure nobody is going to port FreeQt to the Windows-World.
2. support and documentation (obviously their customers are willing
to pay quite a lot for support on a per-year-basis)
Even here a FreeQt wouldn't really harm Troll Tech. Although the
free support you get on newsgroups *is* good - I experience quite
often, that most people don't want to rely on that; they feel
better having a commercial product with commercial support.
I feel the difference GPL - LGPL is quite important for the
success of KDE. After all, very much of the Software you get for
Windows is that Shareware-Please-Send-$15-Stuff. Those developers
won't be able to afford a Qt-License.
