This is the sort of thing, I want.  Remember that the reason MSWord and
Word Perfect are very incompatible with the default formats is that M$
and Corel really do want people to BUY the stuff.  This is also why 
Word 97 differed from Word 95 more in document format than all else.  
In Linux the ca$h incentive is removed as a major concern so there
should
be common doc format across apps and not only should they deviate only
to
add some new formatting option ... They should only produce incompatible 
documents when those features are used.
This is the area where GPL software is weak.  Commonly used office apps.
There needs only be a Full suite, a simple accounting prog and a full
Fax software.
