One handy thing Photopaint does with selections, and this is particularly
nice with feathered selections, is show them in vector format within the 
image, but provide a separate optional dialog that shows the selection
in shades of a rather bright red color over the image.  (I believe the
image is shown in greyscale at that point.)  IMO it's even easier to figure
out what feathering is going to do that it would be if it were drawn 
directly on the image.
