Subject: [Kde-kant] Bug#29499: Kate should tell users if they have no permissions to change a file
From: thd () kde ! org
Date: 2001-07-22 5:18:13
[Download RAW message or body]
Package: kate
Version: 1.0 (using KDE 2.2.0 beta1)
Severity: wishlist
Installed from: compiled sources
Compiler: gcc version 2.95.3 20010315 (SuSE)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.4-4GB
OS/Compiler notes:
Kate does not seem to give any error message if users try to save a file without \
proper permissions. The only indication that the file was indeed not saved is the \
title bar entry "modified" which does not disappear. This is just not clear enough, \
esp. for newbies.
When trying to close the file the user is asked to save (which he might think he just \
did) and when trying to save (again) he is told that this is not possible without \
telling him about the reason. Again this will be totally unclear for newbies.
Please insert clear error messages and give esp. newbies some clear hints that their \
files may not be saved (although they may think they are) and also some hints as to \
possible reasons.
Regards,
Thomas
