I am aware of that, therefore I asked a week ago on kde-docbook for help with 
escaping of "<", but got no reply so far, the list seems to be very very low 
traffic :-(

And as this is a quite statical file (we edited de.xml only once or twice the 
last three years) and as I do not want to have another three years german 
documentation with an englisch sentence in the footer, I would accept 
this "sentence puzzle".
