What I do is basically to sometimes backport the docbooks, that have been 
generated in HEAD to the BRANCH, so I get to have docbooks in the BRANCH that 
are not really related to the corresponding po-files in the branch. I only do 
that a short while after the branching, and from then on I only work in HEAD.

For teams that have a long way to go in the BRANCH this may not be so good a 
method. I really do think the docbooks in the branch should be frozen.
