Newsletter #5 from the KDE-Edu team
First of all, the KDE-Edu team wish you all a very Happy New Year.
This is the newsletter number 5 from the KDE-Edu project. The project's
ultimate
aim is to create educational software based around KDE, the K Desktop
Environment and all our projects are under an Open Source licence (mainly GPL
or Artistic Licence). This newsletter keeps you informed of the state of this
project.

What's new?
For the first time the kdeedu package is released with the official KDE3 beta1
which was out the 19 December. See
http://www.kde.org/announcements/announce-3.0beta1.html
That means that you can find deb/rpm packages for your distribution if you
want to install and test this beta1 release.
Please note that the tarball for each program on the kde-edu website is still
to be compiled with KDE2 except if mentionned for KDE3.
New projects annonced:
- KTopo: It's a program for learning topography. It aims to help the student
exploring a map and learning important features of the region and to test the
aquired knowledge of the student. These features would most likely be
cities or area's, but any feature found on a map should be a possibility.
- Kalzium: visualize the Chemical Table of Elements and give information about
each element.
- Kiten: tool for learning japanese
The KDE-Edu team develops mainly small programs for the moment but maybe
after a while these programs could merge to offer a wider range of
applications for each age group in one package. We'll see according to the
need of parents and teachers... and pupils!
