Hi,

First Qt is not KDE. Cantor is already ready to welcome new plugins, the GUI
is already done. People who use Octave might also use R (my husband does, for
example, he is a researcher)
So yes, there is an interest in having Octave as backend. Also one of the
interest comes from Get Hot New Stuff and I hope to see soon some shared
worksheets which would help students learning to use this Free Software.

Now it would be nice if you describe the "few quirks" you encountered with Qt
backend so we would try to overcome them!

Thanks in advance, best regards,

Anne-Marie
