I think a mechanism for this in some library somewhere makes sense.  I'm 
thinking probably kdelibs.  I haven't looked much at the mechanism in kdepim 
for "hot new stuff" but I will at some point.  Give me a kick after 3.2 is 
out the door and we'll see what we can come up with.

Basically it seems pretty simple -- have a data set which packagers can 
optionally include, if it's not present provide an easy way to grab it and 
have something on the mirror side of things to have a "meta list" of servers 
that have the data...
