Didn't Leon Bottou write something about some work done by Jakub Jelinek?!?! 
He did and I started to read some of it... he was writing of using a 
different way to accomplish the same thing. BFD is not the right choice, he 
said. The way I see this, he's right, not because there might be easier ways 
to do it, just because you certainly run in trouble with binutils and 
differences in various distros.
