I've just seen a post of the debian kde list that (I think - not sure I 
understood the post properly) implied the cuprit was qt being built with gl 
support.  It appears that debian's version of qt has it compiled in as 
standard.

I certainly have a debian woody version of libqt and libqt-dev and I get 
crashes here.
