Except that, as a verb, "author" means "to be the author of".  "To author" 
something sounds a bit tortured.  Really not the sort of grammar an author 
would use.

(BTW, most of the time your intent is not necessarily "to author" anything.  
Most text editing is just that... editing existing scripts code, documents, 
etc.  Even when generating something totally new, the majority of your time 
is spent editing, not creating)
