I'm rewriting and reposting this from a post I made over 5 days ago on
koffice and kimageshop lists that got no response. Perhaps I'll have
better luck here.

If you want to have a krayon (paint program) for koffice and are using a
bigendian machine like PowerPC please just drop me a note about whether
or not colors and images show up correcty, or post a response here. Red
looks red and blue looks blue, etc. White backgrounds are white, or
not. If things don't look right please point me to a screenshot so I
can assess the situation.

I have no way of testing this, but I have made some changes a while back
to address possible problems with bigendian hardware.

On a related issue, I need these lists for feedback from users. I feel
very strongly that dealing with bug reports is not the way to design an
application. Further, many users who are not coders can have an
important role in development by helping coders design apps, testing and
feedback. These people also are Kde developers, even if they don't
write code.
People who are wanting to restrict this list should stay over in
core-development where they can have a private club for themselves. If
a few people unsubsribe themselves from these lists because of too much
traffic or what they regard as off-topic threads good riddance! These
people are very few compared to those who want an open-ended forum here
on kde-developent for something more than posting bug assignments and
submitting patches. Actually there is far more off-topic discussion and
general bullshitting on the core development list than there is here.
What hypocrisy!

Often I feel that I will be denied access to these lists or have my cvs
access revoked because somebody doesn't like my attitude or because I am
not kissing somebody's behind. This system is based on trust and once
trust is lost it's difficult to regain. I can assure you that for every
person who thinks he is too important to be bothered with traffic on
this list which doesn't include "patches" or code analysis, ten people
who could contribute a lot to kde development say to hell with it
because they do not like being treated like delinquent children by hall
monitors around here. I already have a mamma, thank you!

Often people feel more comfortable describing their needs than filing
"wishlist" items, and such questions and suggestions should be welcomed
here. What is the point in attaching a patch without first discussing
the need for the patch which may or may nor be at odds with the design
the developers have in mind, and allowing other developers to chip in?
This is not possible in private correspondence.

Krayon is becoming a very good app but I have no way of knowing how
others are faring with it without feedback and I always welcome
suggestions on how to improve design and what features are needed or
not. All kde developers are also kde users I hope, and likewise many
more users than you think are kde developers in their own way.

Finally my shameless recruitment blurb. I could use someone to share
the work on Krayon development willing to put in 10-20 hours a week.
Most other koffice apps could use the same. So could many of the apps
in kde cvs that are part of the regular releases. If you are developing
kde apps independently, please consider working on what's already in cvs
instead. If you can develop your own kde app you can do this work. The
rewards may be few but it's always more fun (and more productive)
working with at least one other person on a project this big.

John
