Hi all,
I tried that step by step approach to starting kde. I started X with no
wm and just an xterm. I followed the steps given by suggestion from
Bill. Here is my log:
**********************
[eprincen@eprincen eprincen]$ ls -l .kde/
total 0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 eprincen eprincen 21 Oct 12 11:42
socket-eprincen.internal
-> /tmp/ksocket-eprincen
lrwxrwxrwx 1 eprincen eprincen 17 Oct 12 11:42
tmp-eprincen.internal ->
/tmp/kde-eprincen
[eprincen@eprincen eprincen]$ ls -al /tmp/ksocket-eprincen/
/tmp/kde-eprincen/
/tmp/kde-eprincen/:

drwxrwxrwt 14 root root 10240 Oct 12 11:40 ..
/tmp/ksocket-eprincen/:

srw------- 1 eprincen eprincen 0 Oct 11 17:50 kdeinit-:0
[eprincen@eprincen eprincen]$ echo $DISPLAY

[eprincen@eprincen eprincen]$ dcopserver
DCOPServer: SetAProc_loc: conn 0, prot=local, file=/tmp/.ICE-unix/1002
[eprincen@eprincen eprincen]$ kbuildsycoca
***********************
The last command never returned...
Here is my relevant process tree from ps axf:
***********************
888 tty1 S 0:00 login -- eprincen
903 tty1 S 0:00 \_ -bash
929 tty1 S 0:00 \_ sh /usr/X11R6/bin/startx
934 tty1 S 0:00 \_ xinit /home/eprincen/.xinitrc --
:0 -auth /home/eprincen/.Xauthority
935 ? S 0:03 \_ /etc/X11/X :0 -auth
/home/eprincen/.Xauthority
939 tty1 S 0:00 \_ sh /home/eprincen/.xinitrc
940 tty1 S 0:00 \_ xterm
942 pts/0 S 0:00 \_ bash
1003 pts/0 S 0:00 \_ kbuildsycoca
1002 ? R 6:09 dcopserver
*************************
kbuildsyscoca still has not returned... Any ideas? dcopserver is
running, but is it running correctly???
-Eric ;-)
