true, but in konsole it seems to go a little farther than that -- it 
updates, too: try running xglobe as your desktop and open konsole. 
instantly after xglobe updates, so does konsole.

(which i mention not to argue but to point out a pretty neat effect 
to anyone who hasn't seen it.)
