Use whatever indenting level you want, use whatever combination of TABs and
spaces you want, but please make sure TABs are 8 spaces. This way,
everybody can read your sources while you can still indent it any way you
want.

In vim there's the sts (soft tab stop) setting which is very usefull. 
I allways put "vi: ts=8 sts=4 sw=4" on the first line of my sources, forcing
at least vi users to format it according to my preferences :-)
