redhat users thought /usr was just fine; everybody else thought it 
wasn't. this has come up two or three times a year ever since redhat 
started putting kde in /usr. (interestingly, the original kde rpms 
went into /opt, while the tarballs built for /usr/local. there is 
actually a strong argument to be made for the latter; an even 
stronger argument perhaps to be made for /usr/kde.)
