Here are the lines I logged during X startup with  startx 2&>file
	X-Session-worked=first startup
	X-Session-failed=next startup
	kregistry.bad=registry file produced during first run

No idea.
Can you start running either kdesktop or kpanel from the command line
and watch the debug output ?
