the root will not change global settings unless chooses "publish" (otherwise,
they will stay in the local dir);

shouldn't be hard with KStandardDirs: findResourceDir() should returns
"$HOME/.kde/share/applnk;/.../workgroup/.kde/share/applnk"
without the global ($KDEDIR) menu in the path.
There is room for a new kmenueditor, Chris!
