Ok. Seems as if admin isn't correctly embedded in kdelibs on my system.
I always thought updating had worked before.

Speaking of am_edit: Could you take at the --enable-final mode in
kdebase/kdm ? Currently it produces something like:

kdm_OBJECTS = o kdm.all_cpp.o 
kdm_final_OBJECTS = o kdm.all_cpp.o
