Peter Mattis (from the GIMP project again) modified the lcc compiler
to include a compiler backend that generates the stub routines between
whatever interface and data-types you used in your C program and his
Scheme interpreter.

Scheme is a good choice, since the GNU people have a Scheme
interpreter, and C-to-scheme front end for it (ie, it parses your C
code and creates scheme code).  They have a general parser scheme for
this, so translating most popular scripting languages into Scheme is
easy (and besides, they do the job).
