Because it's what happens everywhere (everywhere as in all programs *I* use, 
so i have total consistent behaviour).

Note that you can't get consistent behaviour between 
Windows/Mac/Gnome/KDE/Firefox/OpenOffice/XFCE/Fluxbox/Enlighment/iPhone/Symbian/Android/etc 
at all, they are just different systems/programs with different behaviours and 
to be sincere KDE is IMHO on the top of consistency against most of the 
mentioned programs. IMHO too we should not strive to behave like them, we 
should strive to behave "the correct way"

Now defining "the correct way" is not easy and is not my job either.
