Funny that.... I've that setting at zero on AltimatOS by default in our KDE3 
install (3.5.9) which IS built with aRTs, and I cannot reproduce this at all, 
since I can attest that my music is still playing (nicely) through aRTs on my 
built in sound card which is a crap sound chip. This has got to be some other 
interaction issue (or a broken commit in the 3.5.10 branch).
