Here (also 8600M GT) the pixmap placement setting makes a huge difference. But 
only on resizing windows (especially Konsole) and launching the Plasma 
Dashboard. It takes about 5 seconds to load without that option set while it 
is coming up immediately with InitialPixmapPlacing=2
