Well, we got already attempts at implementing this in the past (exactly with 
the same approach than your). For now it's just not there because we've no 
good way to provide reliable information. I hope that by 4.2 time the 
necessary stuff will be in place to have that implemented in our stack.

Other than that the patch looks nice. If you're interested in hardware 
discovery, power management and all that, I advise you to join the 
kde-hardware-devel list.

Ok, this patch will unfortunately won't get through (maybe later, but not 
now), but I'm always looking forward to more nice patches so feel free to 
bring them on. ;-)
