(first mail to -devel. hello!)

It never will be finished - art is like that. I guess by saying "finished" you
mean "does everything kde 3.5 does".

Tell that to the developers who now use kde4 as their main desktop. I guess
you mean "doesn't do everything kde 3.5 does".

Seeing you haven't really defined "this situation" in this email, I'm assuming
that you're referring to desktop icons that you mentioned in your first post
on the dot. In my opinion, calling these bugs does help the problem.

Some applications (such as kmail?) won't be ready for kde 4.0 so they won't be
released with it. You could say that they have too many bugs. I'd really like
to do the same thing with plasma too. If some parts aren't ready, just
disable them and the bugs are gone. At least that way, what is available will
be more stable and there'll be more resources devotable to working on 4.1. :)

These are all quite obvious issues (except perhaps for the issue with the font
size set in system settings not being used - which is apparently fixed
according to one of Aaron's replies on the dot) so you can be assured that
the developers working on this stuff know about them.

Ok. But please reciprocate this and don't take people not agreeing with you
personally either.

Most of this paragraph is way off track. There's not really that much broken
and most of the infrastructure is there. Granted, it won't be a walk in the
park to get it ready, but 16 days is a lot of time. Especially considering
that holidays (from work/school) are coming, there's still 100s if not 1000s
of man-hours of work that can be done.

As I said above, the desktop is already usable by a lot of people. It's far
from perfect but, even in the worst case, disabling the bits that don't work
still leaves a fairly stable usable desktop. Not having a proper release
candidate is a bit unfortunate, but it's not really that big a deal.

If you search back in the archives of kde-core-devel, you'll find a few
threads with devs debating this very topic. If you haven't ready them, they
didn't really end harmoniously. ;)

There's still many devs that feel the same way as you, but the release is
going forward regardless. Just make the best of it. :)
