Actually, libtunepimp-0.5 (for the new protocol) is dated 07/01/06 on 
the FTP server so it has already been over a year and KDE is still using 
the old (non-XML) server protocol.

And, yes, it would be a good thing to back port the changes (if & when 
they are made) so that distros could release updates.
