yes, this is an example of Canonical and Dell teaming up to produce a product
that is not suitable for the mainstream market, though it's probably just
fine for the niche techie/geek market and for institutions already
implementing Linux desktops (who are therefore dealing with these issues
already; this saves them installing things and gets them official support).
the problems Walt M. outlined were pretty much 100% system integration
problems. which means that at the application level, the free software world
is doing alright. we're just getting screwed by the OSVs and OEMs.
