as long as it still works with desktops only and viewports only i'm fine with 
the patch. feel free to commit.

and yeah, i do wish x11 people could manage to decide their way out of a wet 
paper bag and settle on one way to do things like this so we don't end up 
with these annoying feature matrixes.
