True, but neither will your proposal.  And then someone else will propose a 
new Desktop Database because yours wasn't fully adopted by all programs. ;)

This is circular logic.  LDAP certainly has warts but it's been adopted by 
enough applications and libraries that it would be too much effort to just 
invent something different now.
