I can not produce this either in gentoo

I use 
xmodmap -e "keycode  34 = dead_circumflex dead_diaeresis dead_tilde"

to temporary assign a key as deadkey

AFAICT, SuSE uses qtimm patched Qt. I use the same kind of Qt, but I
still can not reproduce this.
