humans are strange...

however may i suggest a completely unpolitical solution, but rather a GUI 
design one? (referring to Lauris comment)

why not replace the current menu by a pseudo editable autocompletition 
listbox?

so if you know you live in Türkiye, you simply start typing "tü" and i assume 
it's the only entry left - should hold for most other countries as well 
(first 3 letters should collaps the list to sth. you can see your nation in)
