Wouldn't that be managed with some sort of dependency system. So if you 
wanted to install something that needs kcontrol the the system would se 
thet this package requires kcontrol and would also install it. The only 
thing that could go wong here is if dependencies were incorrectly set I 
guess.

I think this is a great idea for several reasons, User has more control of 
what he installs and what he doesn't install. Maybe this isn't so 
important with kdebase and kdelibs which I would always install 
completely but with other packages like kdeedu or kdegraphics or kdepim 
it is nice to install only the apps you need and nothing more.
It is also nicer for patches. for example if there is a bug just in one 
small app in kdepim then why would you download and compile the whole big 
kdepim hen you can only recimpile and install this little bugy app.

Remember that I'm not a developer or programmer but I just speak from my 
personal user perspective. This higher granualirty is one thing I like 
better in GNOME. And Mandrakelinux also has KDE packges split for some 
time now. But as I say, I'm just a user and can't say anything about 
programming dangers of this.
