This is odd since syslog is a GLibc function.

Do you have:

	glibc-2.3.2-101.i386.rpm
	glibc-common-2.3.2-101.i386.rpm
	glibc-devel-2.3.2-101.i386.rpm

installed??

Further research indicates that there is probably an issue with the GLibc 
library that comes with Fedora.
