Sorry for the stupid question, but I've searched the developer docs and
googled and can't find out what kded is and, in particular, what a kded
module is.  

kded --help

simply says

KDE Daemon - triggers Sycoca database updates when needed.

If i explore kded with kdcop, I can see loadModule and unloadModule
methods.  Gideon allows me to create services of type KDEDmodule.

Would someone explain in general terms what a kded module is
and perhaps point me to some documentation please?  Much obliged.
