I'm sorry to be blunt but... to me they just look more blurred. The idea of 
the original picture, you viewing a document recognisable on the folded 
corner of the 'paper' is completely unrecognisable. Like Paul said: you can't 
know what the context of the image was. This particular line was meant to be 
sharp, though it might have had some shadoweffects in a larger version. Your 
algorithm may work for some bitmaps, but completely mess up others.
