--enable-debug == --enable-debug=yes. It merely leaves the symbol names in, 
but doesn't provide full symbolic debug information including backtraces. 
--enable-debug[=yes] is about the bare minimum if you want to aid developers 
at all, but --enable-debug=full is a LOT more useful with the line number 
debug info. It also eats disk space alive though.
